Rumi an ‘architect’ of peace in Anatolia
Mevlana Jalaluddin al-Rumi, a Sufi mystic and Islamic scholar who is
today revered in Turkey as a spiritual pioneer, was one of the
“architects” of centuries of peace and tranquility in Anatolia.
“Throughout our history, peace and tranquility has prevailed in Anatolia, the cradle of civilizations. Spiritual architects like Mevlana have a big share in this,” Konya Mayor Yakup Canbolat said on the first day of events commemorating the 13th century philosopher in the Central Anatolian province.
On the 744th anniversary of his death, Mevlana is being commemorated at his burial place in Konya in a ceremony known as Seb-i Aruz or “reunion with the Beloved.”

Culture village to be dedicated to Rumi
KONYA - Doğan News AgencyShare
The Rumi Culture Village will be established in Rumi’s
hometown Konya’s Sarayönü district. The village aims to introduce Rumi
at all points.
The life and works of Mevlana Jalal ad-din Rumi, the 13th century
poet and mystic, are set to be showcased in a new cultural center to be
established in his hometown, the central Anatolian province of Konya’s
Sarayönü district.
As well as Sufi music and fine arts courses,
Ottoman, Arabic and Persian language courses will be opened at the Rumi
Culture Village and Rumi will be presented from different angles in
Turkish and English, according to Esin Çelebi Bayru, the International
Rumi Foundation’s deputy president. She also said works by Rumi would be
performed in the village.
Bayru said the village project was
waiting for the approval of the Development Ministry and would go ahead
once it was given the green light.
“People from all around the
world will be able to come to the culture village and take classes
there. We want these classes to be easily followed on the Internet. As
well as Ottoman, Persian and Arabic language courses, there will also be
Sufi music and courses in fine arts. There must be rules and convention
courses in the village, too. Because people are unhappy and uneasy,
they lose their own customs. We plan to carry out this project with the
metropolitan municipality and universities in the city.” Bayru said.
She
added they had also prepared a project for children, adding, “The ‘My
Rumi’ project will teach children about Rumi. We will try to teach about
him from their viewpoint. This project includes a theater play and
books.”
Bayru said Rumi and his family immigrated from Karaman to
Konya on May 3, 1228, and they were also planning to organize a march
from Karaman to Konya on the same day. She said the four-day march would
not be an ordinary one, but would take place at the international level
including talks and meetings.
“We also plan to organize a
theater festival for children in May. On Sept. 30, 2013, the birthday of
Rumi, a mystic music festival was successfully held in Konya. This is
why we are thinking of creating a platform for artists to stage
performances about Rumi,” she added.

la vie de Yunus EMRE portée à l'écran....
Life of Turkish Sufi Yunus Emre adapted to screen
ANKARA - Anadolu Agency
Turkish Sufi and poet Yunus Emre’s life is being adapted to the silver screen by director Kürşat Kızbaz, who previously made a film about Rumi that received big interest around the world. The film will be released in January 2014 with the title ‘Yunus Emre - the Sound of Love’
Speaking to Anatolia Agency, director of the film Kürşat Kızbaz said that he previously shot the film “Mevlana - Aşkın Dansı” (Rumi – The Dance of Love) and it was screened in 65 countries.
He said this time he was working on a film reflecting the love and peace philosophy of the intellectual Yunus Emre, adding that the preparation and shooting process of the film took more than three years.
Kızbaz said that the film was set to be released in the first month of 2014, adding, “This special project brings together many renowned names. Yunus Emre is played by Devrim Erin, the star of the highest-budget movie of the Turkish cinema history, ‘Fetih 1453’. A very special and experienced team of actors collaborated with him in the film. We will present the unique story of Yunus Emre to audiences on Jan. 10.”
Artists including Burak Sergen, Altan Erkekli, Altan Gördüm, Ahmet Mekin, Bülent Emin Yarar, Sinan Albayrak, Suna Selen, Nesimi Kaygusuz, Tamer Levent and Nilay Cafer are taking on roles in the film, said Kızbaz. “These names will appear as historical characters like Rumi, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli, Tapduk Emre etc.”
War scenes shot in Van
Kızbaz said they had set up a big place in the eastern province of Van for the Mongol war scenes, and added, “At the same time, we wanted to show all the colors and richness of Anatolia by shooting the film in 15 cities over four seasons.
“While depicting the life of Yunus Emre, who had an impact on the life of millions of people with his love, tolerance and peace philosophy, we received support from many institutions, including the Culture and Tourism Ministry.”
Noting that making such a film carried big responsibilities, Kızbaz said he was the director, producer and scriptwriter of the film and had undertaken a big responsibility in showing such a significant character to millions.
Since they knew the difficulties of reflecting the life of such a mystic character on the cinema screen, they had worked on the script and shooting preparations for more than two years, according to Kızbaz. He said they received invitations from many countries from India to the United States.
The film was shot in Kartepe, Nallıhan, Erciyes, Cappadocia and Hacıbektaş, said Kızbaz, adding that people living in those regions showed them great interest.

le 4 avril à l'IMA: SUR LES PAS DE JALAL-EDDINE RÛMI
04 avril 2013
SALLE DU HAUT CONSEIL - 18h30
