expo des photos de Frances Dal Chele sur le Quartier de Tarlabaşı

L'Œil Urbain 2016 expose du 1er avril au 23 mai à Corbeil-Essonnes "D'où vient ce bruit à l'horizon?", mon travail sur le quartier louche et attachant de Tarlabaşı (Istanbul) qui est bouleversé, tout comme ses habitants, par un projet de gentrification.
Le samedi, 2 avril est la journée des visites des expositions en compagnie des photographes. Elle se conclut par un vernissage à 19h. Concernant le car partant de la Porte d’Orléans le 2 avril à 10h15 qui est normalement réservé à la Presse et aux Agences, il est possible aux autres de le prendre. Je suis ravie que mon travail soit présenté à L'Œil Urbain! Et j’incite fortement les copains et copines de Paris et de l’Île de France à venir découvrir, s’ils ne la connaissent pas encore, une jeune et dynamique manifestation qui a toujours une programmation exigeante.

Au moins quatre morts dans un attentat-suicide dans le centre d’Istanbul

Un attentat-suicide a causé la mort d’au moins quatre personnes, dont le kamikaze, samedi 19 mars dans la rue piétonne Istiklal, une grande artère commerciale de la partie européenne d’Istanbul. Une trentaine de personnes ont également été blessées, dont sept grièvement, a annoncé le ministre de la santé. Il a ajouté que douze ressortissants étrangers étaient au nombre des blessés.

Ottoman trove cleaned with q-tips

The Beçin treasure trove, which was discovered in 2000 during excavations in Beçin, located in the Milas district of the western Muğla province, was first weighed on grocery scales while each coin was cleaned with q-tips.

The head of the excavations then, Professor Rahmi Hüseyin, who unearthed the trove of 48,848 Ottoman and 848 European coins, said they were very excited when they had found the trove in a structure called the “taxman house.”

Cats in Ankara treated at a specialized hospital

A cat hospital in Turkey’s capital of Ankara provides treatment to some 4,000 cats every year.

Founded 18 years ago by a group of vets in Ankara, the hospital provides treatment only for cats. Six vets currently serve at the hospital where cats are being treated for a variety of reasons, including vaccination and surgery.

“Specializations are required in science and in hospitals. This is the case for our profession too. We specialized in cats,” said Tarkan Özçetin, a vet at the hospital.

Women’s film festival in Istanbul to focus on ‘solidarity’

The 14th edition of the International Filmmor Women’s Film Festival on Wheels, which aims to increase the involvement of women in cinema and the media, will be held between March 12 and 20 in Istanbul. 

The theme of this year’s festival is “Women’s Solidarity Keeps Women Alive,” said festival consultant Alin Taşçıyan at a press conference on March 3. 

“Some 300 films applied to be part of the festival this year. We wanted to include films from Turkey and abroad in the festival program and we watched these films for many days and nights. It was really hard to leave out some of these films from the program. Women are making very good films and we selected them not just because they are made by women but they are very good films,” Taşçıyan said.

This year the festival will screen over 70 films in 30 languages, as well as featuring workshops, panels and talks. 

As part of the festival, the “Purple Camera Promising Female Filmmaker Award” and the “Golden Okra Award,” which challenges traditional perceptions of women in popular Turkish cinema, will also be presented. 

After Istanbul, the festival move on to Adana, Hatay, Van, İzmir, Bodrum and Mardin. 

Saskia Diesing’s “Nena,” Violeta Barca Fontana’s “Color Thief,” Darine Hotait’s “I Say Dust,” Vivian Papageorgiou’s “Inner Land,” Remedios Crespo’s “Flexibility,” Silvana Ceschi and Arnulfo González’s “Irına in Wonderland,” Anna Muylaert’s “Second Mother,” Kim Longinotto’s “Dreamcatcher,” Natalya Kudryashova’s “Piooner Heroes” and Nayla al Khaja’s “The Neighbor” are among the films due to be screened.
