Priceless 18th century icon seized in car trunk in Turkey’s Adana

Police in the Mediterranean province of Adana seized on Feb. 22 an 18th century icon that has one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ embroidered on gazelle skin.

Police officers from the public security branch stopped a car driving on the Alparslan Türkeş Avenue in the Çukurova district after becoming suspicious of it. The officers later searched the car and found an icon hidden in the trunk. The suspects were later detained.

Police have said the icon was a historical artifact, which had “The Great Archiereus” carved on it.

The suspects said they took the icon from someone who owed them money.

Windmills of Misis comes to light

Archaeological works are continuing to unearth Roman-era windmills in the ancient city of Misis, an important Roman-era city, as part of a project titled “The Infinite City: Misis” done by Yüreğir Municipality in the southern province of Adana.

The city is located right next to the Ceyhan River, 27 kilometers east of the center of Adana on the historic Silk Road. 

In collaboration with the head of the excavations, Professor Anna Lucia D’Agata of the National Research Council of the Institute for the Study of the Ancient Mediterranean, and Pisa University Professor Giovanni Salmeri, excavations have been continuing for four years in the 7,000-year-old Misis, which is one of 270 archaeological ancient sites in Adana.

Connue comme la ville immortelle, 7000 ans Misis dans la province méridionale d'Adana est à venir à la lumière avec les travaux archéologiques qui se révèle riche histoire de la ville antique 

Misis (Mopsouestia) pourrait être éclipsé par Rome, mais la ville antique sur les rives de la rivière Ceyhan dans le sud de la Turquie est aussi vieux que l'ancienne capitale impériale, tandis que éclipsent sans doute le surnom de Rome de «la ville éternelle», avec son propre titre, "la ville immortelle.» Quelque 7000 ans après sa fondation, le travail archéologique sur le site révèle maintenant les traces de l'antiquité.

Misis est situé juste à côté de la rivière Ceyhan, à 27 kilomètres à l'est du centre de la province méridionale d'Adana sur la route historique de la soie. AA photo

‘Hababam Sınıfı’ exhibit opens at Golden Boll Fest/ un musée de cire à Adana

Within the scope of the 20th Golden Boll Film Festival, which is continuing in the southern province of Adana, the “Hababam Sınıfı” (Hababam Class) Museum will open in the city. The museum features the characters of one of best known Turkish comedy film series, adapted from late author Rıfat Ilgaz’s novel of the same name.

Wax sculptures

An exhibition opened yesterday at the museum displaying the wax sculptures of the film’s stars, including
Münir Özkul, Ayşen Gruda, Adile Naşit, Kemal Sunal and Şener Şen.Adana Deputy Mayor Zihni Aldırmaz said the exhibition would be open until Sept. 30. He said the historic building next to the Cinema Museum, which opened in the Tepebağ neighborhood two years ago, would be restored and turned into the Hababam Sınıfı Museum.

The festival will continue until Sept. 22. Twelve Turkish films were selected this year to compete in the National Feature Film Competition of the 20th Adana International Golden Boll Film Festival. The results of the competition will be announced at the closing ceremony, with the winner of the competition receiving 350,000 Turkish Liras.

Uluslararası Adana Tiyatro Festivali, muhteşem bir törenle başladı. Festivalin açılışında, İtalyan Studio Festi grubu sahne aldı. Bir ay sürecek festivale, yurt içinden 16, yurt dışından 7 tiyatro topluluğu katılıyor.
Dünya Tiyatro Günü'nde "perde" dendi. 15'inci Devlet Tiyatroları Sabancı Adana Uluslararası Tiyatro Festivali'nin açılışı yapıldı.
Açılışta konuşan Devlet Tiyatroları Genel Müdürü Lemi Bilgin, "Devlet tiyatroları her yıl farklı şehirlerde 5 uluslararası festival düzenlemektedir. Ancak 27 Mart Dünya Tiyatro Gününde başlayan Devlet Tiyatroları Sabancı Adana Uluslararası Tiyatro Festivali'nin dünyadaki saygın ve önemli festivaller arasında yer edinmiş olması bizler için ayrı bir gurur kaynağıdır" dedi.
Sabancı Vakfı Mütevelli Heyeti Başkanı Güler Sabancı da "Tiyatro hepimize düşünme, hoşgörü birbirimizi daha iyi anlama fırsatı veren birlik ve beraberliğimize katkıda bulunan ve insanlık tarihinin en eski sanatı. Yerel bir tiyatro festivali olarak başlayan daha sonra uluslararası boyutlara ulaşan bu festival kendini ıspatlamış bir uluslararası tiyatro festivalidir" diye konuştu.
"YAŞAM BOYU BAŞARI ÖDÜLÜ" RUTKAY AZİZ'E
2005 yılından bu yana verilen "Sakıp Sabancı Yaşam Boyu Başarı Ödülü" bu yıl sanatçı Rutkay Aziz'in oldu.
Aziz, "Özgürlük yolunu açarsak inanınız ki tiyatro sanatı bu soylu sanat, hem ülkenin toplumsal barışına hem demokrasisine, hem insan haklarına, hem onuruna, hem de kültürel kalkınmasına çok ciddi katkılar sağlayacaktır" dedi.
"SU VE ATEŞ ANILARI" BÜYÜLEDİ
Festivalin açılışında, İtalyan Studio Festi grubu, 'Su ve Ateş Anıları' adlı bir gösteri düzenledi. Gösteri Seyhan Nehri üzerinde gerçekleşti. Çukurova'nın bereketli topraklarının nehre yansıtılmasıyla oluşturulan görüntüler, göz kamaştırdı.
Yaklaşık 1 saat süren gösteri, izleyenleri adeta büyüledi. Bir ay sürecek festivalde, Türkiye'den 16, yurt dışından ise 7 oyun sahne alacak.

Foseptik çukurundan tarih çıktı !

• Adana'da foseptik çukuru kazılırken Ortaçağ dönemine ait sikkeler bulundu.

Adana’nın Yumurtalık ilçesinde foseptik çukuru kazılırken 750 adet gümüş sikke bulundu.
İş makinesiyle bir vatandaşın evine foseptik çukuru açan operatör, bir testi içerisinde paraların saçıldığını görüp hemen polisi ve zabıtayı bilgilendirir.
Olay yerinde inceleme yapan Adana Müze Müdürlüğü'nün görevlendirdiği 2 arkeolog, gütmüş sikkelerin Ortaçağ dönemine ait olduğunu söyledi. 750 gümüş sikke detaylı incelenmek üzere Müze Müdürlüğü’ne götürüldü.

Déploiement des missiles Patriot en Turquie dès le 22 janvier

Le ministère de la Défense des Pays-Bas a annoncé le départ des batteries de missiles Patriot vers la Turquie le 7 janvier. Ils devraient arriver à Adana le 22 janvier.
Un communiqué du ministère de la Défense des Pays-Bas a annoncé que les deux batteries de missiles Patriot partiront de la base militaire de Vredepeel, près d’Eindhoven le 7 janvier, en direction du port d’Eemshaven. Enfin, ils seront acheminés en Turquie par la voie navale, et arriveront probablement le 22 janvier.
Par ailleurs, une délégation de 30 soldats Hollandais et de 20 soldats Allemands arriveront en Turquie le 8 janvier afin de finaliser les préparatifs destinés à accueillir les missiles. Près de 270 soldats Hollandais responsables des missiles Patriot quitteront les Pays-Bas à destination de la Turquie, le 21 janvier.
Des soldats Américains à Gaziantep
27 soldats Américains responsables du déploiement du système de défense aérien des Patriot sont arrivés en Turquie dans la ville de Gaziantep.
L’Allemagne, les Pays-Bas et les Etats-Unis s’engagent à déployer respectivement quelques 380 soldats et deux batteries de missiles Patriot (type PAC-3 ayant une capacité de 16 missiles par lanceur). Chaque batterie comporte cinq éléments : les missiles eux mêmes, les lanceurs, les générateurs, une antenne radar, ainsi qu’une station de contrôle (ECS).
