Çelebi’s book enters into UNESCO list
ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency
The “Seyahatname” was approved to be included in the Memory of the World Register during the International Consultative Committee for the Memory of the World program meeting in Gwangju, South Korea.
The Ottoman traveler’s Seyahatname is considered to be the longest travel book and it forms an integral whole, experts say. Çelebi began his travels in Istanbul, taking notes on buildings, markets, customs and culture; in 1640, he started his first journey outside the city. His collection of notes from all of his travels formed a ten-volume work called the “Seyahatname.”
