Romantic landscapes of Felix Ziem at Pera Museum

Pera Museum’s “Félix Ziem: Wanderer on the Sea of Light” exhibition presents the works of one most original landscape painters of the 19th century: Félix Ziem.

The exhibition focuses on Ziem as an artist who left his mark on 19th century painting and who is mostly known for his paintings of Istanbul and Venice, where the city and the sea are intertwined.

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with Musée Ziem in Martigues, is curated by Lucienne Del’Furia and Frédéric Hitzel.

Ziem’s oil paintings stand out with their lively colors and the artist’s effort to capture the flickering effects of the continuously changing light by using a rapid and dynamic brush style. The exhibition illustrates the reasons why he was hailed as a forerunner of impressionism and as a pre-impressionist; his stylistic relationship with artists like Monet is quite evident.

His drawings exemplify his creative process and present new angles into his work. They also encourage us to rediscover the city of Istanbul through his perspective.

Pera Museum opens new summer program

STANBUL- Hürriyet Daily News

Pera Museum’s educational program starts this month today with drawing lessons. The program focuses on the artists Matisse and Valdes. Children aged between four and six will be able to attend the workshop. After studying still life paintings and focusing on the concept of form, children will prepare an imaginary meal with plasticine. On June 4, comparing Manolo Valdés’s figure paintings with similar works by renowned painter Henri Matisse, children will paint their own figures. On June 5, a pop art workshop will be held. The use of strong texture, of different media in the works of Manolo Valdés will constitute the basis of this workshop. Apart from making collages on paper with different materials, participants will also use Valdés-inspired and pre-designed silkscreens in their paintings. This will allow them to employ different techniques with a variety of materials.

On July 9, the “Mirror, Mirros on the Wall” program will allow the participants to draw their profile portraits on burlap using mirrors and make collages with paper.
